Teddy Tahu Rhodes’ unique and rich timbre brings to life the moods in Mahler’s music, from earthy, folk-inspired love songs to the aching agony of loss and grief.
'Um Mitternacht' and 'Ich atmet’ einen linden Duft' from Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder show off to great effect his amazing vocal control anddisplay a fabulous understanding between conductor Marko Letonja and Rhodes.
Equally at home on the opera stage and in the concert hall, Teddy Tahu Rhodes enjoys an international opera and concert career. He has appeared with opera companies across the United States, Europe and the UK, including Welsh National Opera, Hamburg State Opera and at the Metropolitan Opera, New York. He has performed the role of Billy Budd in Britten’s opera of the same name in Santa Fe, The Met and Sydney, Joe in Heggie’s opera 'Dead Man Walking' in Sydney and in Adelaide, and has defined the role of Stanley in Andre Previn’s 'Street Car Named Desire', enjoying seasons in Vienna, Chicago and Sydney where he also performs regularly in roles from Mozart and Puccini to Britten and Prokofiev. International concert highlights have included Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s St Matthew Passion, Fauré’s Requiem and Mendelssohn’s Elijah.
Teddy Tahu Rhodes has most recently enjoyed enormous success in an extended season of 'South Pacific' in Australia and in Opera Australia’s production of 'The King and I'.
